Isopropyl Alcohol is a chemical compound. It is colorless, flammable chemical compound that has a strong odor. A secondary alcohol can be exemplified with by this. It is miscible in water, alcohol, ether and chloform. It is insoluble in salt solutions. It is produced by hydration reaction and hydrogenating acetone. The hydration processes of producing it are divided in two routes. Indirect hydration via sulfuric acid process and direct hydration.

Isopropyl Alcohol was primarily used as a solvent for coatings or for industrial processes. It is very popular in pharmaceutical applications. It is also used as chemical intermediate. It can be used as acetone. From the year 1990 a tiny fraction was consumed for household use and in personal care products. It is a non toxic compound and it evaporates quickly. Like acetone it is used widely as a solvent and as a cleaning fluid.

Isopropyl Alcohol can be used as an antiseptic, disinfectant and rubefacient. To make a standard use of it, you have to add 1 part water of 2 parts of 99 % isopropyl alcohol. It should be used full strength as topical antiseptic or for disinfection for instruments. It provides a temporary relief for minor muscular aches or pain that can be caused by the overexertion and fatigue. To get a full benefit from it, you have to apply it full strength to the affected area and message briskly to stimulate circulation. A veterinarian should be consulted in case of serious burns. It should be discontinued if the redness, irritation or the swelling increases. Excessive irritation is caused by it if it is used on the irritated skin.
